EL FONDO BORICUA EMERGENCY RELIEF
January 7th, 2020 the island of Puerto Rico experienced the worst earthquake since 2014 striking 4:30 a.m. The 6.4 magnitude quake was followed three hours later by a 6.0 magnitude aftershock. The island is still shaking and has left millions of people without power and without water. El Fondo Boricua has continued to assist grants to vetted non-profit organizations and projects assisting the island's emergency relief efforts since the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in September 2017. We will be directing grants to further assist emergency aid working with local organizations and projects on the island to help Puerto Rico after the earthquake.
Minnesotans have reached out on how to assist on going efforts in Puerto Rico and El Fondo Boricua is fundraising to continue to aid emergency preparedness and overall disaster relief in rebuilding Puerto Rico.
Please rest assured that contributions made to El Fondo Boricua at the St. Paul and Minnesota Foundation will be sent to Non-profits working on the Island vetted by Foundations.

Puerto Rico has been devastated by Hurricane Maria and its medical system and hospitals need supplies very urgently. Dr Miguel Fiol of University of Minnesota was there during the hurricane and volunteered at shelters and knows of the great need for PTSD mental health assistance along with insulin, antibiotics, dialysis equipment, asthma meds and other general medical supplies. The Medical School will work with clinical partners in Puerto Rico to provide medications, medical supplies, and other health assistance as needed.
